The day of answers has finally come as Salim Chazama and Bright Mdoka fight in the main non-title bout this afternoon at Kamuzu Institute for Sports (KIS) in Lilongwe.

The two have been avoiding each other for years due to their close relationship built since they started the boxing career together at Lilongwe Community Centre Ground.

Each has an excellent professional boxing record of beating all their opponents. However, all what matters today is for boxing lovers to know the better boxer between the two.

New Dawn Boxing Promotions have organised the eight-round fight with sponsorship from Active-Pro Energy Drink.

“My fists itch for a punch and I cannot wait to land my first punch on my ‘friend’,” said Lilongwe-based Chazama.

But Mdoka, who lives in Zomba, had a humble statement yesterday: “Chazama is equally a good boxer and we should just let our fists judge us in the ring.”

But before that, the local boxing fraternity will witness the return to the ring of enterprising prominent pugilist Wilson Masamba, who will take on Acras Mchombo in the main supporting bout. Masamba spent almost a year in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on a peacekeeping mission.

Other four supporting bouts will be between Lilongwe’s up-and-coming female boxers Anisha Bashil and Ruth Chisale, who will sort each other out as semi-professional boxers. In other curtain-raisers, Alexander Likande, Daniel Lombola and Kudakwachi Banda will take on Yohane Banda, Limbani Chikapa and Byson Gwayani respectively.

Distributors of Active- Pro Energy Drink, Medvet, fulfilled their pledge by slotting K500 000 into the event on Wednesday when the company’s marketing manager John Kamanga promised to keep on supporting the sport. According to New Dawn’s director Mike Chimaliza, the winner of the main bout will get K100 000 prize while the loser will take home K70 000.
